Doubletree By Hilton Hotel Johor Bahru is a luxurious 4-star hotel located 10 minutes walk away from Komtar JBCC/City Square Mall.
The property is one of the few hotels near City Square mall that you can book under S$100. You will not be able to find such a good price for any property under Hilton groups at this price!
We make some price comparisons before deciding on a platform to book our room with Doubletree Hotel Johor Bahru. Here’s our finding.
Direct from Hilton.com
If you book directly from hilton.com, you will be able to get the King Deluxe Room at RM 308 (~S$102) during Honors World Sale. Otherwise, it costs around RM 418 (~S$139) if you are a member of Hilton Honors. Yup, that’s 35% discount from the original price on the website.
Usually, it will be much more expensive to book directly from the hotel website. If you are a member of the group, you will earn points that can be redeemed for a free night in the future.
HotelQuickly helps travelers to find last-minute deals such that you will still be able to get a room at the cheapest rate. How it works is that it purchases a limited number of rooms from the hotel and sell at a “constant” rate to the travelers.
I wanted to make a comparison by using last minute’s rate. At the moment when this post was written, I was unable to find an available room for the nearest weekend.
If we take a look at the available room, it starts at S$138 for the King Deluxe Room. That’s around the same price if you book directly from hilton.com.
A King Room, which I presumed to be the King Deluxe Room, starts at US$74 (~S$98). So far, this platform has the cheapest rate.
If you book on Expedia.com, you can use DBS Altitude to earn 10 miles per S$1 spend. The rest of the online websites can only yield at most 4 miles per S$1 spend.
Both Booking.com and Agoda.com are owned by the same group. They have different business models and target audience, which might end up influence the price of the hotel room differently.
So how about Agoda.com? We compare the same date we selected for Booking.com. It costs S$97 to book a King Guest Room and S$114 to book a King Deluxe Room.
It’s not clear what’s the difference between a King Deluxe Room and a King Guest Room as both rooms offer 31 m² space with identical amenities.

Honors Member Special
It’s obvious that you will get a cheaper rate if you book from third-party platforms. If you often book a stay with Doubletree JB or other Hilton hotels, I suggest joining as a Hilton Honors member so that you can maximize your hotel benefits.
Doubletree Johor Bahru Hotel is within a walking distance from Komtar JBCC. You can take the exit at the main entrance near Swavorski on Level 1, cross the road and walk towards Amari Johor Bahru. At the intersection leading to the expressway, take the left exit and walk up the hill. You will arrive at the hotel in no time.
If you are feeling lazy or you are carrying heavy luggage, you can take a GrabCar for around RM 6 (~ S$2). The car ride takes around 3 minutes.
Unlike some other hotels, this hotel has nothing much in the vicinity. You can find the nearest 7-11 at Amari Johor Bahru. If you need some local food fix, you can find a couple of Malay food stall opposite of the hotel entrance.
During the Stay
The check-in queue can be really long on a busy weekend We waited almost 20 minutes to check-in on a Saturday afternoon. The hotel staff gave the famous Hilton cookies to everyone in the queue, which makes the wait less annoying.
Once we were at the counter, the process was done within 10 minutes. In the midst of collecting the deposit payment, the hotel staff made an effort to introduce the hotel amenities (e.g. jacuzzi, swimming pool).
The King Executive Room
The executive rooms in the hotel come with either a double bed or king bed configuration. The size offered is the same as the King Deluxe room (or King Guest room). If you book the executive rooms, you are basically paying additional just for the executive lounge. If you prefer to have a bigger room, you will need to book the next room category (e.g. the One-Bedroom Suite) or pray that you get an upgrade if you are a member of Hilton Honors.
Located on the high floor, the executive room is really bright and pleasant as the curtain is drawn. The room comes with complimentary WIFI access, breakfast and whole-day refreshment at the executive lounge.
The bathroom of the executive room is not particularly big as compared to other hotels in the city but it is sufficient for a night stay. If you need a bathtub, you will need to book yourself into next room category as the executive rooms are only equipped with a rain shower.
If you are a fan of Crabtree & Evelyn, you will be delighted that the hotel provides that as their bath amenities even at the non-executive room category.
The Executive Lounge
We always prefer to book our rooms with executive lounge because it is very difficult to find booze in Malaysia. It makes even more sense to get access to the executive lounge at Doubletree Johor Bahru as it is really difficult to find food in the vicinity.
The pre-dinner cocktails and refreshment are serve every evening from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. You can also have your breakfast at the lounge from 6.00am to 10.30am or 7.00am to 10.30am on the weekends.
Let me warn you that the executive lounge is incredibly crowded on the weekends. If you arrive slightly later than 6.30pm, you will find it very difficult to get a table. It will be even harder to find a table if you are coming as a big group.
If you are not going anywhere, you can go to the lounge before 6.00pm to enjoy a cup of coffee while waiting for the happy hour to start at 6.00pm. The spread is pretty impressive for an executive lounge. Other than the usual fruits and bread, you may also find fried food and Asian-style noodles.
Doubletree Johor Bahru is always my top choice if I need to stay in Johor Bahru for a night. With its impressive spread at executive lounge, I find it really worth to pay additional just for the access to the exclusive floor.
If you are looking for a cheap and quick staycation, you can also opt for the cheapest room that’s under S$100. It’s definitely a steal because you can never find such a good price in Singapore.
